Color Me Rad in Edmonton!

This past weekend I participated in the Color Me Rad 5K with my cousin, and it was such a BLAST! As previously mentioned I’m not a runner, so I attended with one very specific goal in mind: to get utterly and completely covered from head to toe in paint. Turns out that the slower your pace, the more covered in paint you get so my goal was definitely achieved! We went as part of a group headed by my coworker and her husband, owners of the gym Movimento Fitness in St. Albert.

This particular event hosted by Color Me Rad was mentioned in the Edmonton Journal as being the largest event out of all of them held across Canada and the United States! An estimated 18,000 people attended over Saturday and Sunday…I’m so proud of our Festival City! We sure know how to have fun 🙂 Most of the crowd had their bright, tight whites on – ready to get bombarded with the rainbow. Color Me Rad also gave every participant a pair of neon glasses to complete the transformation to totally RAD.

The race is set up so that runners have to go through five different color stations, where volunteers – dubbed members of “The Bomb Squad” – make it their mission to fill every nook and cranny of each person with paint via hoses, fire extinguishers, colored puddles, paint bombs and good ol’ fashioned handfuls of paint. We started with purple, and proceeded through yellow, orange, green and lastly pink, with a humongous paint fight between participants armed with paint bombs near the finish line.

I may or may not have laid down on the ground during the pink station and rolled around in the paint…

There was not a white shirt in sight at the end of the race and it was so fun to walk through the crowd in a technicolor daze. It was like having the childhood dream of being in a food fight come true, but with paint instead! It was so much fun that I’m definitely going to do it again if they come back to Edmonton. How often do we get the chance to throw paint at each other on purpose? I’d say not enough 🙂
