Is it normal for a grown woman to have friends that she refers to as her ‘hobbits’? Probably not, but I have three of them! I first met these women in elementary school. We grew up together and became inseparable during the most awkward stage of our lives – over plucked eyebrows, questionable outfits, butterfly clips and glasses and braces…otherwise known as junior high!
We had sleepovers (still do), ate copious amounts of candy that we snuck into movie theatres (still do that too), passed each other notes folded into tiny little triangles and covered in doodles (does snail mail covered in stickers count? because that’s a current thing), gossiped about celebrities and boy bands (yup, still a thing), and knew practically every line of the Lord of the Rings movies (never stops being a thing). These ladies are my soul sisters, my sisterhood of the travelling pants sisters, my sisters from other misters, my hobbits!
We try our hardest to get together once every few months, and we always pick up exactly where we left off. Our latest adventure was a Journey to Middle Earth at the Muttart Conservatory in Edmonton, where the Shire was brought to life in the feature pyramid. We started with a delicious brunch at Culina in the Muttart, and then went through every other pyramid before heading to Middle Earth, keeping the best for last. We found ents, dragons, wizards, and a real life hobbit hole! Pretty much a perfect afternoon for a bunch of Middle Earth fangirls 🙂
Love these ladies! I can’t wait for our next adventure in a few weeks, when one of these lovelies is walking down the aisle and becoming a Mrs! It’s our second hobbit wedding – mine was almost 3 years ago – and I couldn’t be more excited <3
