Merry Christmas Eve! Wow, 2015 sure flew by, didn’t it?
This year was a big one in many ways! Nathan and I travelled more than we ever have, including our family adventures to Play Del Carmen here and here, our trip in August to Victoria to be with my family, our road trip through British Columbia with Nathan’s family here and here (more to come from that trip), and my solo trip to Vancouver for Blogpodium!
Nathan also took a birthday trip to Seattle with one of his best friends for an NFL game at the end of November. We set a goal at the beginning of 2015 to travel often, and we made it happen. It doesn’t look like this will slow down in 2016 as we recently booked our flights for a 3 week trip to Europe next summer, which we are beyond excited for.
We started making some big plans for the duplex this year, including a kitchen renovation, our dining room refresh, and a master bedroom makeover. It’s looking like our plans will be full steam ahead starting with new countertops in January!
In terms of well-being, I wrote about my travel anxiety and the art of practicing gratitude. I attended two separate workshops with Love Letters to Strangers, and a workshop for calligraphy with the lovely Justine Ma, the creator of the Be Merry & Bright card in the top photo of this post (blog post about the workshop to come!). Learning new things and putting myself out there were a few things that I really focused on this year. Our community is full of incredibly talented and supportive creative entrepreneurs, and I’m lucky enough to know many of them. As an introvert, it was a challenge to commit myself to attending more community events and stepping out of my comfort zone.
For Christmas this year, Nathan and I made a big, life changing decision, and we started a family! No, I’m not pregnant…we’re getting a puppy! I haven’t shared many photos of her yet, because she comes home at the end of January. We are waiting, patiently.
For now, she’s hanging out with the breeder, her siblings, and her mama. She’s a daniff, which is a cross between a Great Dane and a Mastiff. We are thrilled, and so in love already. Our breeder is wonderful and sends us photos often to keep us updated as she grows. Here’s a sneak peek…
Last but not least, we finally settled on a name for our sweet baby girl!
Freyja. The name comes from a Norse goddess. Perfectly suited to our calm, beautiful, magnificent baby girl. Now that the big decision is made, all the little ones come after it. Crate train? Where will she sleep? What kind of collar do we get her? Doggy daycare? Where do we go for puppy training? Are there such things as well designed and non-ugly dog accessories and things like beds and bowls? If you’ve done the puppy thing, hit me up with any and all tips and tricks that you have!
Merry Christmas everyone! We’ll be celebrating beside an empty Christmas tree, because our present comes home in January (!!!). Here’s hoping your 2015 was a beautiful year, and that your 2016 is just as awesome! Much love to all of you!
