For the last few months, I’ve been itching to do a total overhaul of my beauty routine with Pura Botanicals, an eco-conscious apothecary and perfumery in Edmonton. My old cleanser and moisturizer were on their last legs, and when I ran out of moisturizer, I started using a travel sized tube of Vaseline lotion from the dollar store that I found in the medicine cabinet. *cringe*! I think Nathan picked it up before all of our traveling last year, since guys don’t really make a big deal about skin care and travel sized things are expensive everywhere else. I was desperate, and my skin definitely didn’t like it. Hello acne, my old friend. Anyone else getting closer to 30 and still battling their teenage skin?
Pura Botanicals popped up on my radar when I started seeing glimpses of their dreamy studio on my Instagram feed. Then I read a few blog posts by In The Fun Lane, Poppy Barley and Glitter Guide raving about Pura products and the founder, Lane Edwards. I poured over the Pura website and was THIS close to ordering some potions, but I wanted to experience it all firsthand. A few weeks ago, I finally did. You guys, this local business is a complete gem, not to mention serious interior design eye candy!
There is no other word to describe what you see and feel when you step into the Pura Botanicals studio other than intention. Everything has been thoughtfully conceived from beginning to end to feel earthy, beautiful, and natural. The smell of hand crafted potions and perfumes envelop you with the lightest touch, and immediately calm your senses and invite you in. Lane is positively lovely, and I instantly felt as if I’d known her forever. Her positive energy and passion for what she does is intoxicating, just like her potions are.
In addition to a full line of skin care and scents, Pura Botanicals also offers the most luxurious service of handcrafting bespoke perfumes, something that I’m very interested in and would love to experience one day. The idea of sitting one-on-one with Lane and concocting the perfect blend of essential oils that are quintessentially ‘me’ is so sensual and empowering!
There are so many memories associated with scent, and if you think back on your life, many of your favourite smells will remind you of a person, a place, or a moment in time that you hold dear. I love the power of that connection! All of Pura Botanical’s scents are so mindful and true, that they will instantly become new favourites that you associate with goodness and love.
After spending an hour or so in the Pura Botanicals studio, I left with a beauty haul that smells delicious and makes me feel like a queen! I look forward to my nightly ritual, taking the time to properly clean my skin and pamper it with products that I can feel good about using. The best part is, each and every potion is handcrafted right here in Edmonton, using only the highest quality natural ingredients and the essence of plants and flowers. Here’s my beauty haul, and what I think about each product!
Countess Cleansing Nectar
Inspired by the Italian Princess, the Countess of Nerola, this cleanser is packed full of neroli, French lavender, frankincense, sweet orange and calendula. It is perfectly lightweight and non-greasy, leaving my skin feeling smooth and clean. Pick it up and try it for yourself here.
This toner is perfect for my acne prone skin, with rosemary to stimulate cell renewal, tea tree oil to act as an antiseptic, and lemongrass which minimizes pores and firms the skin. I take a deep breath in after I mist my face with this potion, and it grounds me and calms me either before bed or before I start my day. Try some here.
This moisturizer is where it’s at! With chamomile to sooth, clementine to decongest, vanilla to replenish moisture loss, and skin softening coconut and sweet almond oil, this lotion smells like a creamsicle and gives my skin the most amazing glow. This may be my favourite of the bunch! If you treat yourself to just one Pura potion, it should be this one.
Neroli Eye Ritual
This amazing and delicate under-eye moisturizer is rich with rosehip, lavender and aloe vera, which minimizes dark shadows and signs of fatigue. This is definitely coming in handy as we adjust to life with a new puppy! For this ultra luxurious night time ritual, try it here.
This is a body elixir, ooo lah lah! It smells amazing, with Hawaiian Plumeria, pink grapefruit, palmarosa, bergamot, geranium, ylang ylang, and a touch of patchouli. I love spritzing this delicious mixture of essential oils on my heart center, my wrists, and behind my ears before I leave the house for the day. It’s divine! Give it a try!
For those of you that would love to experience Pura Botanicals firsthand, visit their website or check out their studio on Wednesdays from 10am – 4pm. In pure we trust!
