It’s time for the Stubbington bedroom makeover reveal! If you need a refresh, here are the before photos and inspiration. After waiting for a night when Theresa was out of the house, Nathan and I went over on a Wednesday evening and spent a whirlwind 3.5 hours putting the room together with Blake’s help! It was my first time doing a bedroom makeover like this, and I felt like I was starring in an episode of TLC’s While You Were Out…does anyone remember that show? I was most definitely an addict. Oh, the adrenaline! Oh, the tearful reveals!
The room came together fairly easily, though I did have to send Nathan to IKEA mid bedroom makeover because I bought the wrong length of curtains (never assume that 98″ is the longest length, because apparently IKEA sells 118″ length also, oops!), and the size of brackets I got for the wall shelves were too deep compared to the depth of the shelves, so Nathan also had to pick up shallower brackets! Rookie mistake, haha. Note to self…double-check all measurements and packaging in the store before tossing it in the cart.
We brought in new textiles including a spa-like white duvet cover, mint green eucalyptus sheets (which are seriously the softest sheets I have ever touched), throw pillows and blankets, and a double layer of curtains to add softness to the room. We brought in new bedside lighting with shiny silver mercury glass lamps that bounce the light around. New artwork was hung on the wall, bringing in bits of their fun personality. Yes, that’s a poster of the entire history of Batman symbols on Blake’s side of the bed! Theresa’s bedside artwork included a painting of a hand holding a bouquet of flowers, handmade by her grandmother. It’s the sweet details that make all the difference in a room!
My brothers used their incredible welding and woodworking skills and hand-built a custom console table and side table for the room, with bleached cedar and brushed steel for a light and modern feel. I am SO in love with how they turned out! On the console table we added in some greenery and candlesticks with a traditional shape yet modern and sparkly glass finish. I love how the candles look like they’re floating! Above the console table we hung the ever so lovely Stockholm mirror from IKEA…that baby has good lines!
The original plan was to get a bench for the end of the bed, but Blake found a cozy and comfortable armchair with a matching ottoman that perfectly tucks into the corner, great for a bedtime story with their son, or for relaxing with a morning cup of coffee! The log slice side table with hairpin legs was also custom-made by my brothers, with a small woven basket on top to throw your odds and ends into at the end of the day, like your wallet, watch, or jewelry. Everyone needs a catch-all!
A few wall shelves in a white and pine finish is a great place for books, personal mementos and a few pretty tchotchkes without feeling visually heavy. They perfectly completed this little reading nook! I wanted to snuggle up with a good book and make myself at home!
While I wasn’t there when Theresa walked into the room on her birthday, she called me right after and expressed her delight and gratitude for the bedroom makeover. I was so happy to know that it was a birthday gift well received! It was such a fun experience, and I would gladly do it again. Who else wants help with a makeover? I’m your girl!
