Learn to knit a heart

learntoknit

So I learned to knit! I’ve been into the idea for a few months now because I’m seeing a resurgence of beautiful knit sweaters on the internet (more specifically, Pinterest) and eventually I’d like to make one. My mama so generously bought me some yarn and knitting needles and brought them along to Big White. I learned the basic stitches, and after a few hours of trying to come up with some form of catchy rhyme or word association with which to remember that a knit stitch is the reverse stitch and a purl stitch is the forward stitch, I got the hang of it. My mom will tell you the exact number of times that she had to rescue me and unravel a few rows to fix dropped stitches, holes, or added stitches, and I will tell you that I’m thankful my mama is such a patient teacher!

After stitching about 20 to 30 rows, this tutorial that I had pinned came to mind and I decided that I was ready to try knitting a heart. The only issue was that I was working on rows of 20 stitches, and the provided pattern was based on 15 stitches per row. So I made my own pattern!

It’s very subtle, and you could have a lot of fun doing the heart in a different color, but I’m definitely not that advanced yet! Now that I’ve got the basics mastered, all I can think of is that our future is destined to include a house FULL of yarn rainbows bursting out of every nook and cranny, with me sitting on the couch knitting furiously and Husbie feeding babies bottles to the soft click-clack of my needles. It’ll probably look like this:
