So here is the debut of a new section of the blog called Style! For me, this is a way to get more comfortable in front of the camera, and to be more comfortable with myself in general. I know we are all our own worst critic, but I’ve never really felt ok in my own skin. I grew up with acne, glasses and braces. I still battle bad skin, and that makes me self-conscious. I’ve got skinny legs that are constantly bruised (thanks to the klutz gene). I do have a husband that is wonderful – he tells me I’m beautiful the way I am, without makeup. It’s really hard to believe him, and I don’t feel comfortable leaving the house without my “face” on.
With that being said, I think beauty is about self-acceptance. I think it’s about finding the positive in what we’ve been given, and dressing in clothing that makes you feel comfortable. For me lately, that’s a lot of dresses and skirts which solve a lot of fit issues (pants are my enemy) and make me feel more feminine!
I’ve always wanted to take pictures in a canola field. For a few months during the summer, Alberta is dotted with endless fields of electric yellow that beckon and beg to be frolicked in. Lucky for me Husbie is a photographer, so he happily agreed to a spontaneous photo shoot a few weeks ago, as the sun was setting on a beautiful day. We drove out of the city towards farmland until we came across some canola. That’s one positive thing about living in the ‘burbs…nature is a short 5 minute drive away!
It turns out canola fields are really scratchy, really sticky, and not so much the happy-summer-frolic-through-a-field type of location! I was doing high-knee steps through the canola and Husbie said I looked like Godzilla…so I humored him 😀
