On September long weekend, Husbie and I decided to take a random road trip on Saturday to Drumheller! I hadn’t been there since I was a kid and neither had Husbie, so we thought it would be fun. Our first stop was in Torrington, Alberta for a quick peek into the Gopher Hole Museum!
For those of you that haven’t heard of this gem, it’s full of taxidermy gophers placed into dioramas. Quite random and very hilarious! It was rather busy when we visited, with lots of visitors and a film crew for CBC on site filming a special on it. It really only takes about 10 minutes to go through the whole thing, but it only costs $2 a person to visit so how can you say no? If you’re into weird and quirky attractions, definitely check it out for a laugh!
Our next stop was the World’s Largest Dinosaur! You can pay about $5 a person to climb to the top of him and take in the view from inside his mouth, but as it was the long weekend, there were children swarming all over him and we were content just hanging out by his feet.
Next stop – The Royal Tyrrell Museum! It was PACKED but it was still a blast! I love looking at these old bones and imagining what dinosaurs would have been like in the flesh. Such terrifying creatures, yet so fascinating. Being a paleontologist would be so cool, or maybe it would be boring…it’s probably boring for 99.9% of the time and then amazingly cool for that 0.01% of the time where you come across a skeleton or a new species while digging around in the dirt. I’d want to be the paleontologist that they call in for that 0.01% of the time.
For all you Game of Thrones fans out there – Dire Wolves were the REAL DEAL!
After the museum, we went in search of Hoodoos, were disappointed at how small they were (did they just seem rather oversized because the last time I saw them I was a kid? or have years of tourists worn them down?) did a little fashion photo shoot which I’ll post soon, and then headed our way home! We stopped for some amazing scenery on the way, including the most beautiful sunset and mist settling on top of fields…
…and to keep it real, here’s a little peek at the flashing red and blue lights that paid us a little visit for the most minimal speeding ticket ever 🙂 For those of you that assumed that I was the one driving, you’re wrong! Husbie gets all the credit for this one!
