You know what they say…winter is coming. Winter causes dry skin, rough lips, clogged pores and all those other skin shenanigans that I’m not very fond of. Out of desperation, I rummaged through my kitchen cupboard to see what I could turn into a natural exfoliant instead of using something full of chemicals. With three ingredients, I made a sugar scrub that smells delicious, exfoliates wonderfully, and moisturizes as well! Care to know the secret?
Pure vanilla extract, sugar, and coconut oil! Using those ingredients as your base, you can add any number of essential oils to get the smell that you prefer. I happened to have some lavender vanilla sugar on hand from The Silk Road Spice Merchant, which ended up being perfect. It can be used on your face, body and feet for silky smooth skin. The best part? It took 10 minutes to make.
If you don’t happen to have lavender vanilla sugar on hand, you can use white sugar or brown sugar and 15-20 drops of lavender essential oil instead. Just think of all the possibilites! Brown sugar with pumpkin pie spices, white sugar with orange or lemon essential oil, coconut extract, peppermint, rosewater…the options are endless. Buying a sugar scrub can be quite pricey in store, so I’m pretty happy with my home made version that cost pennies to make. It’ll last on your counter for up to 2 months (or more).
[yumprint-recipe id=’3′]This would make an excellent hand made Christmas present as well! How fun would it be to get a bunch of people together for a crafternoon and make a variety of sugar scrubs so that everyone could try them? Have you ever made your own sugar scrub before? Tell me your favourite combinations!
