There’s nothing like the feeling of a clean house! The itch to do a deep house cleaning is always strongest around this time of year for me, when the daylight sticks around for a little longer and the snow starts to melt, making way for fresh breezes and green grass. I guess they call it spring cleaning for a reason! I also realized it’s been a while since the last full duplex tour, so I thought I’d share a sneak peek of the whole place as it is now, including our completed kitchen sans painted cabinets, which will happen this summer!
My usual weekly house cleaning routine consists of general tidying and putting things back where they belong on Saturday mornings, and I like to make the beds every morning when we get up so it feels like crawling into a new bed at the end of every day. When the sunlight streams into the windows just so, I’m forced to clean up all the dust that magically appears in the sunbeams, and when family or friends pop over, I do a mad dash to the bathrooms to swish a brush around the toilet bowls and wipe down the vanities, haha.
Sadly, the full elbow grease treatment doesn’t happen as often as I’d like, especially now that we are adjusting to life with Freyja. It’s hard to find the time to devote an entire morning or afternoon to a full house cleaning, especially with Freyja chasing after the broom and hiding from the vacuum cleaner. When Mallory from Mad Maids contacted me about doing a full deep clean of the duplex, I almost cried with excitement. I’ve never experienced the joy of having a house cleaning team come over before! Let me tell you, it’s pretty much the best thing ever.
We had to wait until our routine with Freyja was a bit more manageable and our kitchen renovation was complete, so once we installed our backsplash (EEE it’s done and I’m in love!!!), we set up an evening appointment with Mad Maids. That’s right…they worked around our schedule and sent a two person team over around 6pm on a Tuesday night, and started cleaning upstairs while we finished dinner in the kitchen and took Freyja for a walk.
Mad Maids did an incredible job! Every surface was gleaming, every finish polished, and because they brought all of their own cleaning supplies, the house smelled so good and not at all like chemicals. Stepping into a pristine shower the next morning instead of one ringed with pink soap scum (yeah, it was that bad…does anyone else get to that point? Blogger confessions!) was heavenly. Seeing our finished kitchen renovation fully clean for the first time made me so giddy.
As a company, Mad Maids is also pretty awesome. They originated in Calgary and recently expanded into the Edmonton area. They have an extremely user friendly online booking system with a flat rate that changes depending on how many bedrooms your house has, with a bunch of upgrades available if you’d like a bit of extra attention in a specific room.
They offer appliance cleaning, blinds cleaning, and even an hour of organizing or a load of laundry! They even offer an upgrade to green cleaning for the environmentally conscious. They are pet friendly, they offer a 100% guarantee, and will come back to re-clean your house for free if you’re at all unhappy with their service.
Best of all, they give some of the proceeds from each house cleaning to the World Food Program, in order to make sure that children all over the world have access to healthy food! I love businesses that support a good cause.
Here’s the best part, which I obviously saved for last. Get your spring cleaning started on the right foot and freshen up your home with a full house cleaning of your own!
From now until April 14th, use the promo code DL20 for $20 off a Mad Maids house cleaning! Even better still, Mad Maids is offering you the chance to win a FREE full house cleaning for any house up to six bedrooms within Edmonton or Calgary. Enter to win below!
The contest will close on March 28 at midnight, and I will contact the lucky winner directly and put you in touch with Mad Maids for your free house cleaning! Good luck!

I’ve had them come to our home in Calgary a couple of times since hubs and i are working ludicrous hours right now. It just makes everything easier.
It was so wonderful and they did such a great job! Glad to hear that you’ve had a good experience with them too 🙂 <3
The backsplash turned out awesome!!!
Thanks love! I’m pretty happy with it for our first time DIY’ing tile! xo
Your place is so pretty, I especially love the paint colour in your bedroom!
Thank you Sarah! The paint colour in our bedroom is actually the same colour we used throughout the house as a fresh canvas before moving in, but because of the light it looks different in every room! haha 🙂
Your place is lovely and it seems very homey! And I know exactly what you mean about pink soap scum… :S
Thank goodness I’m not the only one with an unintentionally pink bath tub! Ha 🙂 Thank you so much! We think it’s pretty cozy.
I love your bathroom color. I could definitely use a free Mad Maids cleaning in my bathroom!
